READING: Excerpt from the Velveteen Rabbit

~ By Margery Williams ~

"What is REAL?" asked the Rabbit one day, when they were lying side by side near the nursery fender, before Nana came to tidy the room. "Does it mean having things that buzz inside you and a stick-out handle?"

"Real isn't how you are made," said the Skin Horse. "It's a thing that happens to you. When a child loves you for a long, long time, not just to play with, but Really loves you, then you become Real."

"Does it hurt?" asked the Rabbit.

"Sometimes," said the Skin Horse, for he was always truthful. "When you are Real you don't mind being hurt."

"Does it happen all at once, like being wound up," he asked, "or bit by bit?"

"It doesn't happen all at once," said the Skin Horse. "You become. It takes a long time. That's why it doesn't happen often to people who break easily, or have sharp edges, or who have to be carefully kept. Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you get all loose in the joints and very shabby. But these things don't matter at all, because once you are Real you can't be ugly, except to people who don't understand."

BEACH WEDDINGS in Southern California are lovely!

Along with Malibu, LAGUNA BEACH is one of the most sought-after locations for beach weddings in the Orange County and Los Angeles Counties. It's easy to have small (fewer than 10 people), meaningful ceremonies on or near the beach in Laguna. For larger events, there are many, many fantastic venue possibilities for both ceremony and reception! Please search this blog for keywords Laguna Beach, Heisler Park, beach ceremony or wedding for more...

The ceremony shown below took place just outside of the gazebo in Heisler Park:

This ceremony was inside the gazebo. Doesn't the water look beautiful in the background?

This ceremony was held on a sloping pavement area, just outside of the lawn bowling field/yard at Heisler Park:

And, this ceremony was down on the beach itself. Please note our bare feet in the sand! :)

Wedding in Newport Beach, onboard ICON yacht

CONGRATULATIONS: Tracie and Kolby!

It was another fantastic weekend, with a lovely and intimate wedding aboard the Icon yacht in Newport Beach! For four hours, we were in the capable hands of our captain as he cruised us through the harbor.

Tracie and Kolby are two sweethearts who are teaching and writing in Maine, but grew up in Orange County. Their wedding was filled with family, friends, and lots of love.

If you're interested in having a wedding onboard a yacht at sea in Southern California, please check the CNYB website.

COLETTE'S CATERING took care of the food. i even got to meet the legendary Colette! Photography was done by a fun, three person crew from FIRE LIGHT.
